How Chapter 7 Bankruptcy Works

When a debtor files for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, creditors are immediately barred from further contact. Throughout the case, it will be determined whether a filer’s assets will be liquidated through a bankruptcy sale or if a debtor’s property is exempt from this sale. If a sale is ordered, the funds obtained will be divided among creditors according to a schedule assigned by the court and many of these debts will then be considered “discharged”. This means that a creditor will no longer be able to pursue any of the debt.

We can help you answer questions on any of the following:

  • Benefits of Chapter 7 Bankruptcy
  • The Means Test
  • Dischargeable Debts and Non-Dischargeable Debts
  • Small Business Liquidation
